Art-Therapy

No artistic skill or prior experience is required to fully benefit from art therapy. The language of creativity is unique to each person and accessible to everyone. In fact, the artwork created in an art-therapeutic setting is valued primarily for its therapeutic meaning rather than for its technical or aesthetic qualities.
The creative process will be guided by a common thread — a theme chosen together by the practitioner and the client, based on the client’s needs and challenges.
Afterward, the client may share, if they wish, about their creative process and the emotions that arose during the session.
These sessions can also be offered as part of ongoing, regular support.
The different mediums used are generally familiar and accessible to all, including drawing, painting, collage, and writing.
The benefits of the art therapy process may include, for example:
-
Getting to know yourself better
-
Better understanding how a situation impacts the different areas of your life
-
Gaining perspective and stepping back from a situation
-
Opening dialogue and communication with your practitioner
-
Improving interactions with those around you
-
Being able to visualize your progress throughout your personal journey
-
Feeling more comfortable in your own skin and freer within yourself
-
Expressing your emotions and needs more easily
-
Learning to recognize your strengths and challenges

During adolescence, experiencing grief, loss, or a life transition — along with the changes they bring — can generate stress, fears, questions, self-doubt, and many other emotions. Art therapy can support self-awareness and self-expression throughout a journey of discovering one’s inner world.
In addition to fostering communication with the practitioner, this therapeutic approach can also help adolescents connect and share with their loved ones through the artwork they create.
Adolescents, ages 12 and up:
